Ake utilises two types of notifications: in-app notifications and push notifications. More about these and their differences below.

Note: In-app notifications are currently disabled. Email notifications are still sent when a new discussion has been created.

In-app notifications are automatic and display as a number over the bell icon (top-right of the screen). They can be viewed fully by pressing the bell icon, opening the side menu, and pressing Notifications. The notification will be marked as “read” after visiting the page, and the number will be removed from the bell icon.
Activity regarding the User or Coach, such as a new Question Response or someone replying to a Discussion, will trigger the notification. The number over the bell icon will correspond with the number of unread messages on the Notifications page.
In-app notifications do not vibrate or emit sound from the device Ake is installed on.

Push notifications are the most common type of notification used by mobile apps. It displays a message on a device’s home or lock screen without needing the app to be opened or use their device to receive them.
Coaches can create Push Notifications and send them to Users they are assigned to as a Coach. This can be a helpful tool for Coaches who may need to send a last-minute rearrangement, remind participants to prepare something for the next group session or invite Users to join in on a Discussion.

We recommend using Push Notifications sparingly and sending them at non-intrusive times of the day, or risk losing engagement with the app. It may help to discuss the feature with your participants so they know what the notifications from you will be and that notifications will come through from time to time.
